Review Of The South Beach Diet
South Beach dieters are encouraged to choose the right carbohydrates, such as whole grains, certain fruits and vegetables, the right fats olive and canola oils, and lean protein.
How the South Beach diet plan works is that dieters follow phase one for two weeks. Individuals eat normal size portions of lean meat, fish, eggs, reduced fat cheese, nonfat yogurt, nuts, and plenty of vegetables.
Snacks and desert are a part of the plan. Dieters continue with phase two until they are done losing weight. This is where individuals introduce the right carbohydrates such as whole grains, and most fruits.
Some indulgences are allowed. Once individuals have reached their goal weight they move on to phase three. People continue to make excellent choices to maintain their healthy lifestyle.
South Beach diet says goodbye to potatoes, fruit, bread, cereal, rice, pasta, beets, carrots, and corn for the first two weeks. After this time period these foods remain strongly discouraged.
South Beach rids unhealthy fats but allows for healthy ones. Also the diet does not count grams of carbohydrates. This diet bases its carbohydrates on how much sugar is in them.
Low sugar carbohydrates are good. The plan also allows for strategic snacking. In fact it is an important part of the plan. There is no counting calories or tiny portion sizes. The diet states to eat normal portion sizes.
The South Beach diet comes from the idea that Americans are carbohydrate crazy. Phase one is designed to help people stop craving carbohydrates and carbohydrates are downplayed through the rest of the diet.
Highly processed carbohydrates get digested too soon, insulin levels shoot up, and once those carbohydrates are burned up, the individual’s high insulin makes them crave food, so what do Americans eat ... but more carbohydrates. The South Beach diet promises to make you want to eat better food.
In evaluating the diet, experts find that it does meet some of the criteria for a healthy diet.
Most important, it does not exclude any major food group. Warnings are given that most of the weight lost in phase one is water. So if you choose this diet, individuals may want to work with their doctor or a dietician.
An individual’s body tissue will rewater itself. Take heart though, if an individual is eating right and getting exercise they will become leaner. A big selling point for South Beach is it does not leave someone hanging after the diet phase is over.
This diet gives recommendations for a healthy lifestyle.
